Made famous in Pomerol and St Emillion, Bordeaux, though exciting examples are cropping up in cooler climates in South Africa. Produces soft, feminine, easy-drinking wines which become more complex with bottle age. Makes a good accompaniment to lamb dishes and shellfish.
